Options of electrical stimulation of paretic muscles in patients withh spinal cord injury
Dvořáková, Klára ; Schreier, Bronislav (advisor) ; Špaňhelová, Šárka (referee)
Electrostimulation of neuro-muscular tissue is one of the elementary treating methods in physiotherapy. One of the areas of its use is rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury. As there doesnt exist enough resources written in czech language, I settled down to the goal of present the overview and options of its use in those patients. As completing this text, I came out of my knowledges drawn through the studies on 2nd Faculty of Medicine Charles University, specialized publications available in czech language and not least from specialized articles, case studies and literature of worldwide authors, because those are majority of informations aviable about this problematics. This work stays from parts about spinal cord with its injuries and elecrtostimulation and its practical use. Big portion of the work deals with usage of electrostimulation to improve the quality of life of spinal patients. Especially in prevention of pressure ulcers, respiratory diseases and osteoporosis. Last chapters are specially devouted to functional electrostimulation of upper and lower limb.
The Effect of Functional Electrical Stimulation Applied by the WalkAide Neurostimulator on Balance and Gait in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis

Author: Bc. Veronika Maršíčková Title: The Effect of Functional Electrical Stimulation Applied by the WalkAide Neurostimulator on Balance and Gait in Patients with Multiple Sclerosis. Objectives: The main aim of this diploma thesis is an assessment of therapeutic effect of functional electrical stimulation applied with using of the neurostimulator WalkAide on balance and gait of people with multiple sclerosis against standard outpatient physiotherapy. Partial aims are comparisons the immediate and persistent therapeutic effect of functional electrical stimulation. Methods: The thesis is a randomized controlled trial. For its realization it was necessary to create an intervention and a control group of probands. Both groups received 2 different rehabilitation programs. The intervention group received the WalkAide neurostimulator (for 2 months) for home use. The control group underwent a standard outpatient physiotherapeutic program with application of 20 therapies (at least) lasting 60 minutes (i.e. 2-3 times a week for 2 months). Data collection was performed by validated motor tests and questionnaires, which were focussed on endurance, speed and skilfulness of gait, static and dynamic balance and subjective perception of balance, overal mobility and pathological fatigue. These tests and...
Functional electrical stimulation of paretic upper extremity in patients after stroke
Pilsová, Zuzana ; Uhlířová, Jaromíra (advisor) ; Hoidekrová, Kristýna (referee)
This study aims to evaluate the effects of functional electrical stimulation on motor and functional abilities of paretic upper limb in patients after stroke. Specifically detects the immediate effect of functional electrostimulation on the increase of the active range of motion, reduction of the hand spasticity degree and the improvement of functional performance. The research covered a total of 6 patients after first stroke in the basin aretria middle cerebral artery. The research sample had a homogeneous distribution of the paresis heaviness from light, moderate, to severe. The research was conducted in total of three weeks, every working day, 60 minutes a day, with 30 minutes of indicated electrostimulation and 30 minutes of testing of monitored parameters. Patients were evaluated using the Modified Frenchay scale, Modified Tardieu scale and the range of motion goniometer. Research showed in 60 observations that the functional electrical stimulation has immediate and significant effect on increasing the active range of dorsal flexion motion of the wrist (p-value 0.043). The average improvement on 95% interval estimation is 0.08. During the monitoring of the improvement of the active range of wrist dorsal flexion motion between input and output examination there was no statistically significant...
